Winning is an Addiction.

What I have notice about battling is... everyone thinks they are a winners. Not because the beat didnt win means the beat is straight up horrible. Well in some cases, not all. A producer might lose a battle "who is already good" might think from losing a battle that they have to go work on their craft. NO... beat battling is a showcase. But winning can become an addiction to some. Becareful!

I disagree with this mindset. A loss doesn’t mean your beat is trash, but if you’re not walking away from every battle looking for ways to improve, you’re missing the point. Real producers never stop working on their craft. There’s always something to learn, something to sharpen, and another level to reach. Being satisfied with where you are is far more dangerous than becoming addicted to winning. Competition should fuel growth, not discourage it. β€œI’m already good, so I don’t need to work on my craft” is exactly how producers stop getting better. The best never confuse being good with being finished. 🫑

I used to battle live all the time with this beat league that was out here in Phoenix called Beat Mecca. I lost $100 before I won’t my first battle. $20 entry fee each month. So if you lost you had time figure it out and come back. My homie who put me on to the league told me my format was wrong for battling.

Once I changed it up I won my first battle after months of almost winning each series.

Battling in person is no joke compared to online. It will bruise your ego bad if you not ready for the reaction from the people watching.

That’s why I don’t trip as much about it. We can’t see each other. But imagine if these battles had a live stream feature where we could do that the entire dynamic would change.

Of course there is no crowd of people to validate if your beat was actually good or not. Because a lot of times I used to be the crowd favorite based on the beat I played. But the judges thought otherwise because of the format of my beat.

I’m saying all of this because yes winning can be an addiction. Only if you cheat or scheme by all means to do so. But if you love what you do as a producer then winning is the validation of the work you put into your craft. It’s not an addiction. It’s the drive to strive for greatness. I can only compete with myself. Battling other producers is just a showcase of talent.

@staffmuzik I came from audeobox where we used to battle live on twitch it would be nice if this had that too but it's early and they working on improving things even more so who knows maybe that will be a thing in the future I know first hand that losing on live in front of potentially hundreds of people watching and being told your beat ain't it by the hosts who are Grammy winning producers ignites a kind of fire in you that cant be put out turns you into a whole other animal it also seperates the ones that really live this and got it in em from the ones that don't

@Regime_Lo Man I remember losing one time at the AZ Hip Hop festival at this big beat battle. Lost to a dude from LA in front of all my people I was pissed. But even he had to show love cause the beats was so hard. Just because you lose don’t mean you can’t be the star of the show. The homie that put me on we lowkey started beefing cause we from the same side of town. He was my only rival but it kept the battles interesting. It used to get that heated.
