Battle Talk: Akaiza.Zezray vs Dirteeworks. Did the right beat win?

FatFingers RocBattle Verified Honest Voter: consistent, fair votes across the arena Staff 1 week ago · 98 views
First, I want to thank everybody who takes part in the battles on RocBattle. There are always going to be differences of opinion in these battles, and that’s part of what makes them fun.

Before this battle closed, I had my own opinion on it, and I think @Dirteeworks won this one fairly. His beat “Sara” was a little less arranged than @Akaiza.Zezray’s “WHR WE RUN FROM xZerzay”. But to my ears, “WHR WE RUN FROM” was overproduced. At some points it sounded like two beats playing at once, and there were stretches that weren’t pleasing to the ear. That’s only my opinion. Maybe you heard it differently.

That’s why I created this part of the forum. You can now bring a battle up here to break down why it won or lost. Every producer on the platform can use it, but only after the battle has closed. If you think one of your battles didn’t go the right way, pick it from the list when you start a thread in the Battles room, and the community can weigh in.

Both beats are right here, so give them a listen. Who did you have, and why? Let’s talk about it.

Both super Solid all around so Preference probably prevailed in my opinion. 🔥🔥🔥
I didn't vote on this one but I would've swung towards A.Zerzay personally. More aggressive Battle energy. I'm a fan of both producers! 💯

I try to walk the line between something with space for an MC and something purely for the instrumental. I don’t see MCs with the same drive as producers. I appreciate everyone’s feedback. It’s great to have a resource of so many dope producers in one place.

Both solid.. Sara's joint for me. To the point and beautiful. Zez, joint is cool. Crafted well. But it's a style mad cats do. A lot going on for no reason. It brings me to all of the dudes that make beats on the Roland 404. It's something I've heard before.

Both beats are fire. WHR WE RUN FROM is a banger, however, a lot was going on at once and it crowded the beat. With Sara, I think the arrangement was smooth and let it breathe, and I think that’s what gives it the edge. Good battle 🔥🔥🔥

I don't know, both were good, but WHR WE RUN FROM made me do the ugly face, I feel it won and showed range in production, even tho it was a lot going on, this is a "beat battle" not a battle to see who can make room for a rapper to get on the beat, so I feel this has always been the time and space to "overproduce" and show your skills imo 💯

@tmthaproducer so does that mean I can only submit angry sinister beats? I’m trying to get away from all the anger in music.

I didn’t vote on this battle, but before it closed, I saw it as a fair win. My opinion only. Just because you can create something with multiple chops and complex arrangements doesn’t mean it should win based on that alone. I’m not mad if you want to take your ball home and not play anymore, because we can’t please everybody. But we also shouldn’t discredit the ears of everyone who voted just because we disagree with what they heard. At certain points, it sounded like two different beats playing at the same time. IMO.

@FatFingers boom bap was the genre...which one was booming an bapping..thats all ill say.,,its alot goin on in it cause its a battle...it aint a picnic...there will always be a divide tho...between dudes who can bring teeth to battles and dudes thats all gumz. The gummies will side with gunmies and the dudes who got teeth will eat with the carnivorous. And thats whats goin on here...which is why producers voting is always guna get this result. Others will go thru this...and the more dynamic producers that come in here will see the same...the gummies will vote for the gummies...all due respect

Just so you’re aware, all battles are closed by staff. Even if I don’t vote on a battle, Rockwilder or myself closes it after listening. i see your genre point, and IMO, you have more of an East Coast feel to your beat. Sara was more jazzy music-wise, but the drums identified more with boom bap than yours. Again, it’s just my opinion. But if you have others in here saying your beat has too much going on, are they all not hearing the same beat? If a beat has a lot going on, to me, it should all make sense. I don’t get that from this beat. And the conversation about what a battle beat is seems flawed to me and very limited. Energy alone is not the final say and should not be. We battle in a lot of genres here. Soul trap, R&B, various sample battles, and more. Is it all about energy, or is there more to it? Curious to know. I’ve also heard plenty of your production on this site that is high-quality stuff. I’ll give you that 💯. But my opinion still stands here. This beat was not your top representative.

@FatFingers the genre is BOOM BAP...this battle is like BOOGEY DOWN PRODUCTIONS VS PM DAWN.
ONYX vs. ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT. But i get it, everyone has thier own preference. Music is subjective,,and ppl tend to vote more towards what they relate to...or what they do..for instance...I make beats with teeth...so ima like beats that have canines. If a person does vegan beats...the vegetarians will fall in.

I like both beats.. but im leaning towards more Zezray.. I didnt vote as well.. a little chaos in the beat doesnt bother me if its matched with the energy.. Again both are tight but if i voted it would have been for ZeZray... Thats my honest opinion.. Continue to grind and be great both of you.. Peace..

@tmthaproducer don’t laugh. I been listening to a lot of hip hop and so much of it has that angry screw face vibe. I don’t mind a beat that makes me stank face but I am more about uplifting sounds that seem to resonate more worldwide not just NYC. Why was tribe so popular. It was actually mostly good vibes.

I don't like this ..so we appeasing crybabies now?How does that help the site ...the battle was close and there are no ties so it could've went either way..alot of dudes come here with egos done came from gauntlet audio box and other beat production sites and alot of us been with rocbattle since 06...just because you nice on your court don't ,ran you gonna just run over producers everywhere you go fam...and honestly alot of those sites don't have a mac system I was on gauntlet the other day and alot of the mixes were terrible....other sites they allow suno beats and others prefer these dub step and over transitions ...I don't post but I go and listen to who's nice and not...and alot of people make the rookie mistake they just gonna come and not be tested ...

@jokeyent...Let me start by saying I know who you guyz are and I have all the respect due for what you guyz have put in wit the culture and the platform. its not about appeasing crybabies...its about keeping the integrity of the art of battling and elevation, these principles, many of us got from you guyz...push the boundaries,, Its a difference to me. Im starting to notice that different shit do well in different rooms.

I heard that battle I liked your beat but your transition hurt the beat not helped imo ...wasn't in cohesion dirty had mix and arrangement simple but effective and it was boom bap..your beat was more battle format but if we going by the mac his mix was cleaner and you would have gotten arrangement if your transition landed....jmo you tend to do that sometimes there was a couple battles I thought why you even added that different element and you didn't have to...jmo...integrity is taking criticism as well fam and you are nice but none of us is above critique ....nobody
