The $500 Top 16 Tournament Starts November 10: Here's How It Works
As promised, our $500 tournament is here, and here's how it works.
The top 16 producers from October's final Rankings get a seat. You earned this in the beta. Every round puts your beats in front of the whole site, with members and staff voting, and one producer walks away with the $500.
The battles start November 10th. That gives everybody 5 days to get ready.

2. You have 24 hours to accept
You have 24 hours from the time your invite goes out to accept it and the rules.
If you're in the top 16 and you don't accept in time, you lose your seat. A standby producer takes it.
3. How standby works
Standby producers accept too, within the same 24 hours. If a seat opens, it goes to the highest producer on the standby list who already accepted. For example, if producer number 8 doesn't accept, the first standby producer who accepted takes number 8's spot in the bracket.
If you're on standby and you don't accept, you can't fill in.
4. The bracket
We take 1 through 16 and flip it. Number 1 battles number 16, number 2 battles number 15, and so on down the line. Win and you move on. Lose and you're out. It takes 4 straight wins to take the $500.
Once everyone has accepted, we'll post the full bracket on the tournament page here in the forum.
5. The sound
This is a straight-up hip hop tournament. Hip hop, trap and East Coast type beats are all good. Other styles are fine as long as they fall under hip hop.
No R&B. This is not an R&B battle.
6. The battle rules
- Every beat has to be original and never heard before on RocBattle. So have a new beat ready for every round.
- Only use beats you made. Every beat has to come from you. You can't buy a beat from somewhere else or use anything that isn't yours.
- Sound Check: if we question your beat, you have to go on record and on video and break down every aspect of how the beat was produced and played. That's called a Sound Check. If you refuse or fail a Sound Check, you're disqualified.
- You can use samples, but a sample has to be flipped. If all you did was add a snare over an 8-bar loop, you're disqualified.
- Be very careful with sample kits and reconstructed kits. We will judge those with extreme scrutiny. It has to feel like something different. If you take a sample, we want to hear obvious reorganization, chops, something that makes it yours.
- Beats only. No full songs, sung lyrics or rap verses over your beat. Vocal stabs, chops and choruses are fine.
- No AI beats.
- You don't need the blue check to play or to get paid.
There are no round length restrictions.
Rules may be updated before the battles start. If anything changes, you'll be notified.
Top 16 and standby producers, watch your email and your bell. Everybody else, these battles are going to need your ears and your votes starting November 10th.
Best regards,
Fat Fingers
