12 Days Live: Battle System Integrity
What's going on, RocBattle family!
We've been live for 12 days now, which gives us more than enough time to recognize where the battle system's integrity stands and the changes we have to make. We did the same thing on our previous battle systems, on RocBattle.com and on every version before this one: stress test the system and look at how we can improve it.
So let me be real for a second. With the kind of money we're putting on the line this season, and we're going to be paying out more than we've ever done, you can't possibly think we wouldn't see exactly what's being done. Buddy voting. Bringing in friends to max out one side. Tanking producers. We see it.
We don't have to explain how. Here are some things you should take note of.
1. How the battle system works now
The most voters wins. If there are no staff votes and the battle looks legit, it closes after it's been evaluated by staff.
Staff votes come in on very close battles or when there's money on the line, and those battles need a certain number of staff votes. That's the only time you might see uneven-looking results, because staff votes count for 30% of the battle. So if you're winning on the member side, one staff vote could change that. It might look like you got more votes, or a tie, and still lost. That's because staff votes are weighted.
2. No more draws
Draws are done. There has to be a winner. When you vote, one producer has to score higher than the other. This makes every vote critical: mix, arrangement, genre selection and creativity all matter.
3. Low scores are being highly scrutinized
If you give somebody a 1, 2 or 3, you'll see a warning before your vote goes in. Anything you score that low is going to be looked at. If someone's mix is clearly good and you gave them a 1, you're just showing how much voter honesty you have, and you could lose your rating and your account over it.
4. Verified, honest voters are coming
We want you to be able to rely on voters who have consistent, honest voting patterns, and all of that information is being tracked right now. We're putting more in place for the integrity of the system and for voter rankings, so you know who's voting and how far they can be trusted.
We're adding badges for the different levels of voter. Once you've cast a certain number of honest votes, you'll get a badge so the community can rely on your votes, and it'll show next to your name in the vote tallies. Think of it like the blue verified check, but a gold star for the people who vote consistently and honestly.
5. Battles already played
We went through the records of every finished battle. One result changes: RadikalRk vs MurdaBeats. MurdaBeats was picked by 8 of 11 voters, so the win now belongs to MurdaBeats. Both producers' records and ratings have already been corrected.
Going forward, staff will keep revisiting battles where we see buddy voting, and those votes won't count.
