How to Vote on Beat Battles
What's going on, RocBattle family.
As I watch the voting during pre-launch, I'm seeing some votes that are all over the place. So let's talk about how to vote the right way, because once real money is on the line November 1st, every vote matters.
First, I put together a page that walks you through it: https://rocbattle.com/how-to-vote
You'll also find it on every battle page and at the bottom of the site.
THE BASICS
You score each beat from 1 to 10 in three categories, the MAC: Mix, Arrangement and Creativity. Judge the beat, not the producer. And judge it for the genre it was entered in. If it says Boom Bap, judge it as Boom Bap.
BOOSTED VOTES
A boosted vote is when you pump somebody's numbers because they're your boy, your crew, or you just want them to win. Straight 10s across the board on a beat that everybody else heard as a 6 or a 7.
Boosted votes may not count. They get looked at, they can be thrown out, and they don't help anybody.
1s, 2s AND 3s
Same thing the other way. A 1, 2 or 3 should mean the beat really is that bad. Not "I don't like this producer," not "I want my guy to win." If you give out 1s, 2s and 3s, they need to be accurate, because those get looked at too.
HOW THE SYSTEM LOOKS AT IT
Our system looks at every vote compared to how everyone else scored the same beat. So if you give somebody straight 10s and out of 20 voters nobody else gave a single 10, your vote is going to stand out. Same if you give 1s, 2s and 3s and nobody else did.
When a vote stands out like that, it can be held for review, it may not count toward the result, and it can affect your standing as a voter, including whether you earn or keep the gold Honest Voter star. That goes for boosting rating points too.
To be clear: we're not trying to make everybody vote the same. Your ear is your ear, and honest differences are fine. This is about patterns. Voting is judging, so judge fair.
Honest voting keeps this whole thing real for every producer putting in the work. If you've got questions, drop them right here.
